For the second time in her three-year career, Kayla Hemann became an All-American in the outdoor shot put Friday at the NCAA Championships in Delaware, Ohio.
Her fourth-place throw of 47 feet, 5 1/2 inches gave the Knights their first points of the competition.
No. 3 Wartburg heads into Saturday’s final day in 23rd with five points and nine events remaining.
Libbey Schubert and Tashina McAllister each qualified for finals in their second individual event Friday and will also run in two relays Saturday.
Schubert had the fourth-fastest time in the 100 meter dash at 11.92 seconds, .06 seconds behind Wis.-Eau Claire’s Carly Fehler. Schubert takes the top 200-meter preliminary time into Saturday’s final.’
McAllister, who qualified for the 400 meter hurdles final Thursday, advanced in the 100 meter hurdles Friday with the fifth-fastest preliminary time of 14.16 seconds. Jamie Ludwigson of Wis.-La Crosse led the field at 13.99.
In the 800 meter run prelims Friday night, Taylor Moore edged teammate Haddie Vawter for the final qualifying spot.
Moore finished with the eighth-fastest time of 2:10.83 while Vawter narrowly missed out on the finals with a time of 2:11.49. She’ll run in the 1,500 meter final Saturday.
No. 1 Wis.-Whitewater leads the team standings with 20 1/2 points, just in front of WIAC rival No. 2 Wis.-Oshkosh (19).
