Kristensen’s first round disqualified, Wartburg falls to fifth at IIAC Championships

Matt Kristensen led the IIAC Championships after the first round with a 74 Friday and helped the Knights into the team lead.

Kristensen was found to have signed an incorrect scorecard after he took a drop from a plugged lie during his first round.

The round was removed from Wartburg’s team score and the Knights subsequently lost 18 strokes.

Saturday they shot 310 as a team at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, tied for the third best round but they sit in fifth overall with a score of 652, 26 strokes behind leader Central.

Jeremy Carper had the best round for the Knights Saturday with a 73 and now sits in a tie for sixth with a total score of 158.

Carson Barron shot a 77 and joins Carper in the top 10 with a total score of 160. Nathan Meisinger is tied for 20th after shooting an 82 both days and Dominick Smith improved his score by 13 strokes Saturday and is in 33rd.

Kristensen is no longer in the individual race due to not having a first round score. He shot an 81 Saturday, seven strokes worse than Friday.

Central’s Justin Livingston and Luther’s Andrew Peter are tied for the lead with a 153. Three Dutch golfers are in the top five individually.

The Knights are six strokes ahead of sixth-place Buena Vista, seven strokes behind Dubuque for fourth and nine behind third-place Simpson heading into the tournament’s second weekend.

The third round will take place Friday at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids with the final round to follow Saturday.
