Women’s tennis season ends at IIAC automatic qualifier

The Wartburg women’s tennis team was the No. 3 seed at the Iowa Conference’s automatic qualifying tournament in Cedar Rapids Saturday with the winner advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

The Knight’s dreams were dashed in their opening match against No. 2 seed Luther, falling 5-1 to the Norse.

Play ends when one team has reached five points.

No. 3 Doubles: Lola White-Baer/Hailey Johnson (L) def. Michelle MacKenzie/Brita Jensen (W) 8-4
No. 1 Singles: Allen (L) def. Dallenbach (W) 6-1, 7-5
No. 3 Singles: Helm (L) def. Ross (W) 7-5, 6-4
No. 5 Singles: Whiteley (L) def. MacKenzie (W) 6-3, 6-3

Wartburg ended its season on a high note by defeating No. 5 seed Central 5-2 in the consolation match. Coe went on to defeat Luther 5-3 for the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Knights finished the season 11-10 and lose seniors Dallenbach, Evans, Jensen, MacKenzie and Emily Peterson heading into next season.
